MTN KAMPALA MARATHON 2007

Hullo,
Yesterday I participated in the MTN Kampala Marathon. This is probably the most challenging and the biggest race of the year in Uganda.(it happens every year here in Uganda and this was the fourth time now.)
Over 6000 people participated from within and outside Uganda, from countries like Kenya,Tanzania,Rwanda,Sudan,Djibuti and from other continents like Asia and Europe.

I took part in the 10km race.Thanks be to God,I managed to beat other participants and finished successfully.Of course,not in the first position.But my position tell that Iam a competent perfect runner.see details below;
Race type: 10km.
Race No: 6468
Time:01:00:19
Overall position:1290
Position in open category:1260
Male position:1207.
Wow! I made it. what do you think? The race was mainly dominated by Kenyans. It is yesteday that I got a chance to see the 2006, 5000m world staple chese Gold medalist and record breaker, Dorcus Inzikuru (a ugandan by the way.)and other Africa and world medalists like Moses Kipsiro,Abraham Kiprop,Boneface Kiprop, Kipkimei and kiplagat.(you may wonder why they are all 'kipkip'.they all come from the same region of the country.the eastern and people from this area are well gifted in athletics)

Talking about companies and clubs, they were well represented. For example Stanbic bank,Roofings ltd,Sms media,True african,UHURU Restaurant.(these guys showered us with plenty of fruits), Rwenzori mineral water,Saracen uganda ltd(provided security along side the Uganda Traffic and Police Forces).Media companies were also part of the challenge where radio stations like CBS was represented by Mr Abby Mukiibi (nose master)the programmmes manager,Kato Lubwama (Egg-like eyes),Sheillah Nvannungi(the princess)and Mr Abu Kawenja(huge).Othe radio stations like Radio one,Dembe fm,Radio simba and Radio two also had their employees in this nearly national event.

Oh my,i had forgotten the dramma clubs. How could I?.The Adzido performers and entertainment services took partas well. The club was represented by Kassujja Ibrahim(boxer)who only took 49:55seconds to finish the race as the 663rd person in the 10km race followed by Vincent,Ronnie and Shaffiq. Then, there came the one ane only number one present ME.Mr SSENOGA BRIAN KIMULI.In position no:1290.this is not a joke, this is serious.
Oooops.the Adzido dramma club director Mr Abu Kawenja, (huge)really displayed his skills in dramma. He made a show when he came to the finishing point while panting like a huge British bull dog.I wish you were there you would have seen him.
As if that wasn`t enough for this giant, he almost reached the point of purchasing aplot under the Red Cross tent where he put his big sized flabby tammy to rest.can you imagine?

However,it is as well good to note that Mr Kawenja did best in galloping several bottles of Rwenzori Mineral water and smooching sachets of powdered Glucose while he rested under the Red Cross Ward tent.Man, you would have seen this guy pressing and rolling his huge anatomy on the rather old and tired four inch matresses.Actually, Mr Abu Akawenja went to this tent for purposes of first aid.He wanted his tall flabby legs to be massaged. This was done while he (Kawenja) yelled out of pain, telling the fairly light skinnened tall lady to do the massagig slowly. He almost cried.May be he hae forgotten the saying "Big men don`t cry".Such a big day.All people wearing smiles on their faces as Juliana,Ragga Dee,Blue 3* and other local musicians woed the crowds upto 4:00pm.when the Lugogo Tennis and Rugby grounds were left as they were found.
ciao.Brian

AMAZING MALEMBO

It is Friday after noon and the sun is shining so much as if in a hurry to finish its day’s duty, it’s scotching. But this doesn’t stop children from playing in the sand near the Lake shores. Other children are also enjoying their time playing on the boats docked along the shores. And here comes a pregnant woman running with a stick in her left hand. She is carrying a baby at her back. They see her and start running in all directions as she chases after them. However, she fails to catch one as they are running faster than her and she consoles her self by shouting and yelling at them swearing to punish any child she sees again playing near the shores and in the boats.

On the other side, a man and a woman are fighting for a bottle of Tonto (local brew) while others are happy cheering them. But not all, other people are storming the bars to join their colleagues who are already busy drinking, laughing and dancing to the tunes of Madiru .Looking around, the number of children is overwhelming. Children are almost every where. In the restaurants, bars, Bibanda (local cinema halls), at the lake shores, the football pitch, playing in the sand, on the boats, in the waters, children are everywhere. Putting that aside, of the three women you see one is pregnant. Dear friend, Welcome to Malembo landing site where boozing and giving birth is a hobby.

Malembo landing site is found in Kyannamukaka, Masaka district at the shores of the vast Lake Victoria in Uganda. Two brick houses standing opposite each other at the main road from Kalisiizo welcome the site's visitors. On the far left are the two blocks of the only pit-latrines in the area. The houses that assemble the lake shores in straight lines are made of timber and iron sheets on top of it. This well explains that the inhabitants are not to stay permanently. In fact no serious development can be observed in terms of infrastructure.

According to Hajji Abbas Ssebbowa the LC1 chairman of the area, the site accommodates about seven hundred people, where many are the youths and children. Despite that fact, such a number of people are blessed with only two-pit latrines. Surprising! The only two latrines here are a donation from the district. Behind them is a thick forest of palm trees that shake peacefully when the wind blows.
Asking about the behaviors of people at Malembo, the chairman says that drug abuse among the youth has become a threat to both the addicts and those around. However, the authorities try their best to decampaign such anti-social acts where the local authorities work with the police. Drugs like Ganja, marijuana and mirrah among others are the commonly abused here. “We try our best and work hand-in-hand with the police to sensitize them about the effects of drug and subsistence abuse plus crime prevention, but many still prove to be hardcore lunatics” says Hajji Abbas Ssebbowa the LC 1 chairman.

The number of children in the area shows that family planning is not a thing to do with the people of Malembo.
“Women here give birth to as many children as possible and that is the only way of protecting their marriages.’’ says Eric, one of the operators of one of the two drug shops at Malembo.”A woman is expected to give birth to as many kids as possible. She is supposed to surrender and make sure she satisfies her husband’s sexual desire lest he marries other women.” he continues. According to Eric, it is difficult to find a man with only one wife at Malembo. “Men here are like cars, each with a spire tire." he says. Lodges can be accessed at prices ranging from Uganda shillings 1500-3000/= No wonder the first case of HIV in Uganda was reported around the areas of Masaka-Rakai districts. Eric continues to say, that STDs are among the common human health disturbances in the area. Malaria and Diahorrea being the major. One would be surprised to here that the district health sector donated mosquito nets to the people of Malembo but very few sleep under them. Why? “You see those nets we were given, contain some chemicals that will affect us in the future” says a one Jane an expectant and mother of four. This is the false assumption that many carry and continue to spread about the mosquito nets. Pointing at the two bottles of water guard covered with dust to show the long time they have spent on the shelves Eric says, “I brought water guard, but no one has ever bothered buying it.” This really explains the cause of Diahorrea, which mostly disturb the locals at Malembo landing site. “The two pit latrines you’ve seen are used by all these people, however it is not surprising to wake up in the morning and find a Kaveera well placed at the banks or even 'pupu' floating on the waters,.” Says kayongo. A resident of the area. He continues that even though the authorities emphasize the importance of proper hygiene and sanitation, some people here are still adamant. They continue contaminating the lake their major source of income.

“You have seen it, you have witnessed it your self, and these people are not easy. But due to my experience of about twenty years as LC1 chairman in this area I manage them.” Says Hajji Ssebbowa. He has just commanded a young lady to clean up the place that she has littered with sugar cane and banana peelings.
A matter concerning business Malembo is a good place, especially when one deals in selling beer. Make a bar and you will have a prosperous business enterprise. “Here people start drinking as soon as one finishes his daily work until next morning unless the bar has run short of beer” says one of the bar attendants. Like in Kampala here bars act as good rendezvous. Bars are open twenty four hours a day and they never run short of customers. Other businesses range from chapatti making to selling clothes. Of course fishing is the major economic activity. One starts fishing at the tender age of nine provided he knows how to ride a boat and cast a net and throw a hook in the waters. The nearest primary school is about 3Kms from the site where pupils walk daily to have their studies but not all others shun school for fishing in order to get money. For tourists, especially bird watchers Malembo provides one of the shortest routes to Musambwa Island, which is well known for it’s unique indispensable bird species in Africa, if not the whole world. However those hoping to go to this Island should only be males for women are not allowed there.

THE ESSENCE OF ADAM`S SIN.

I don’t think there is need of me repeating the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden unless am talking to Sunday school kids, I guess you all know it .to many including the clergy this story echoes fear and it means probably the beginning of man’s suffering to date.
However, to me some good, in fact a lot better things resulted from Adam’s sin. By the way, every body is entitled to freedom of expression, then why do you think am going nuts. Better if you read ahead. Come on maybe I should as well tell you that there is nothing good or bad only thinking makes it so. That’s William Shakespeare the all generations challenging writer.

Focusing on the issue, Adam’s sin brought to earth more good than harm. In fact it should cease being called a sin rather it should be called a mistake. Yes. When you read the first three chapters in the book of Genesis keenly you see that law and order was enacted for the purposes of disciplining stubborn men who never cared to observe the laws which bring about order hence peace in the society. Is this the case today? Those distort peace are catered for in the appropriate way. May be if it wasn’t that all people would have been immoral, arrogant and disrespectful.

Though God gave it as a punishment to Adam but he wanted us to emulate him as a worker. God worked tirelessly for six consecutive days without even a single minute to rest. Creating the world and all that is in it. So we should not take work as a curse besides we should just thank God for allowing us follow his example. By the way how could expect us to be like him without doing the things he did or does. God is a worker so man must as well work for both heaven and earth for the glory of his creator. See! I think now you get me well?

Before Adam and eve ate that fruit, man wasn’t wise. But after having a taste on the so called fruit of wisdom, man became wise, and got the knowledge to differentiate between good and bad. At least today one can differentiate between glasses from grass, splash from trash, name it.
More so today man knows who the enemy is DEVIL. We wouldn’t have know such if Adam didn’t eat the fruit.

Hey, do not tell me this action brought about death. Just imagine if there was no death o n this so small a planet where the population increases on such rocket speed, what would have happened? Iam not advocating for death get me right. I just told you to imagine have you? You as well take it to your understanding that it is only through death that man is able to meet his creator, it is just a “medium of transport”. At this point, if it was my primary teacher he would ask “Are we together, do you get the point?” and all that.

If you want to know if your son or daughter loves you then try to trick him or her .this is the case with God. He just wanted to see how man loves him. Those who love God work for him mainly by avoiding sin through prayer. Yes when you try to avoid sin your love for God increases and vice versa which is a very good thing.
When Adam and his wife sinned, man’s relationship with God was cut off they lost communication. That is very true. But hey, God immediately arranged to send his son to restore the broken line. He did this when he called Abraham whom he loved so much and through other several prophets and messengers until when his son came to earth in the father likeness where he spend a period of thirty three years. in fact, in form of a human being. Really we would have missed this golden chance of seeing the son of man if Adam and eve never made that mistake.bytheway who knows if it was God’s own plan? Though you still hold a feeling that it is a curse, to me it is a blessing in disguise. Ciao

WHAT ABOUT THE INEVITABLE ABORTION?

As i was looking through my photo album to refreshen my memories last week.My eyes landed and actually got stack on this picture. She is apretty nice looking lady in her 20s,medium size, chocalate colur skin, watermelon smile that easly tame a Revland father if he`s not so careful, wide face fairly dottted with those big blue bold eyes which one could see that they are full of love and compassion whenever she stricked a blink.
Really, she is the one, BIRUNGI.Sister Birungi. mY gaze at her photo mysteriusly turned my eyes to put on what i rarely put on and that is the bedroom look.
This so set my mind to a broader imagination of her presence just close at me preferably infront of me for no other reason but just to have a look at her.If an angel was to fall in love with Birungi he would look at her like me.Ilater on realised that her photo i was looking at was gaining life, that i nearly uttered `my love'Oh! so sudden my conscience maintained it that a mare photo can`t listen or see what i was on.

Drawing back my mind to what had happened days before, this belle had narrowly escaped death. She had what the doctors termed as ``An innevitable abortion'',which with the little biology i tapped, could not understand.
The government is tirelessly paintingblack the act of abortionbut how comes the innevitable abortion? what kind of innevitability is this?
wouldn`t the stubborn Nakattuddes continue aborting under the umbrella of innevitable abortion.

Our beloved, democratically elected ``Taata Muho...''has recently maintained it kindly (almost on his knees)that the rate at which Ugandans are procreating has not yet satisfiied him.(Breaking news from Kyankwanzi).Ha ha!Do not ask me the number of off springs he has so far produced.

Their knowledge however reveals that certain psycho social and physiological problems play an important role in seeing innevitabl abortion on track.
Thse include domestic violence where men are fond of beating their women like desert camels, that gives no peace even to the foetus.
Poverty that to most Ugandan women especially in the villages makes them shun going for maternity treatment putting all the stakeholders at agreat risk.Drugs taken by the expectant mothers even in a simple feeling of uneasiness may instead turn out to be toxic to both the carrier and the carried.
MALARIA.This for sister Birungi`s case was the outstanding reason.According to the doctors, the womb was too hot for the baby to servive.spare me your other questions, for the doctors canbe suitable attendants to them,ok?

Severe bleeding, trauma, pain, were all she went through, worsened bythe nurses` great care ,i think you know Mulago,Uganad`s National Refferal Hospital. What a ward she was in,5B,that she was always the first recipient of the news that `some body has died giving birth`!
By the mere look into her eye you could easly see that she went through a tunnel. Thanks be to God that she is still alive. And to you men, when your ladies ask you for babies, please it isn`t just a matter of balooning them, but, it goes beyond that, stop being selfish.think about the care, comfort, encouragement, medication, consolation, all bound in the name of LOVE.May pregnancies not separate love but rather spice it up.GOD BLESS YOU ALL.Chiao.

CONQUIERING THE BEAST

Rainy day always kept people indoors weather working or not. it so happened one particular Sunday that it stated raining at around 6:30pm when darkness gradually was conquering the light from the seeming-to-be tired sun.

it poured heavily that even kamagu who alwaystage

of rain water to fill his Jerry cans and later sell the water to "his lazy ones` as he usually called them.he found his way into the house and quietly sunk into his "mmazogont"

7:30PM,power went off.you certainly know umeme`s power table therewas total silence, only for our ears to obediently listen to the now drizzling rain.the place was now in total darkness as dark as a grave or dungeon.
"brian goto the shop and buy a candle"mamasaid .I rolled in bed as though i was suffering from stomach pain, and then the next was asrerious,`hurry up, lazy boy` this time she commanded instead.

knowing her very well i couldn't wait for beatings on such a cold dark night.Rising and throwing my blanket off,i picked up atotch andquickly stood out with my torch on,slowlyimovedit round for self assurance of security.

At the rooftop wasalonely white dove.wondering what the littlething was doing out onaroof top at this time,i picked astone-missile and gave itahard one which pushed it to the ground only to find it disappearing to the invisible world.
Happy about suchatremendous achievement i proceeded to the shop while whistling.

just around the corner close to the dust bin, an incident occured that proved to me that not all dogs like those whistling.
three dogs surfaced be4me.theylookedfurious,hungry and angry.could easily tell from the way they sniffed. was the other dove afriend of these three beast -like dogs.

as they got closer and closer and more close with more determination thay looked.I felt blood chilling down my spine and making no mistake i decided to flee for dear life while screaming unfortunately no body could help.
the three beasts surrounded me ready to devour there prey.why have i killed that white dove? Are these dogs really going to eat me up?where have they come from?those are some of the questions that came to my mind.

In every bad, there isagood .i also got the opportunity to look at these merciless animals at close range as they kept on coming closer and surrounded me.

there was this small one which looked abitxcited the way it waged its tail and stood its ears.it was grey in colour, had tinyblack eyes and ablack long nose. its tail how ever was long and haily like that ofasquirrel.the other one was white with black spots and of a medium size.

the third one was very big with that boxed face, big black bloody bold blinking eyes with hanging ears like thosebull dogs.the big thing looked hungry like starved lion and greedy like ahyna.
the big thing pounced onme like alactating hungry leopard

No body could help me at this time and i felt like kneeling down before to the dogs.Did i,no.immediately i turned to the super natural being for my rescue and with my strength i calledout Jesus!before the beasts finished me.
On hearing that name, they fled in all directions.oh my GOD,it was terrible dream.i knelt and prayed and thanked God for helping conquer the beasts.prayer moves mountains.

THE 'SAINTS DAILY MOVIE

It so happened that i visited heaven last month. At the main gate somebody clad in a brown cassock happily welcomed and handed me a guest card .This card was to help me reach every where except where God the father reigns from.
Having got such a golden opportunity,i would`t miss reaching the prominent `indiscriminate` but feared judgment throne of God -the-son.It was a serious occasion that left no Angel or saints relaxed, for they were serious beyond seriousness each one meaning business.
An angel waved me to a seat so I can set my tiered bones relaxed and have my brain switched on to witness the 'Saints daily movie'.
`Ding, dong, ding`` so the bell made it to command silence and attention.`Ladies and gentlemen get ready`.a fine soft voice was heard.
On a wide screen appeared a golden table with money and the Bible placed each at a respectable distance from the other.
Three candidates were chosen from among audience, and the game was, each to pick one of the two items from the table (but not both) and go straight to the judge-Jesus- and bargain for his entrance into the fun filled place of pleasantries(paradise).Little did it require one to pick both money and the Bible.

Candidate number one confidently and smartly walked to the table and picked money.
In his bargaining he was to use money for buying the Bible, cater for the sick, offer in the church and blah blah blah. However the judge maintained that, `happy are the poor for the kingdom of God is theres'detesting him.

The second candidate picked the Bible and proceeded to the bargaining table.`your word is life,my lord, for even the stubborn devil bows down to your word` he said. This was also disqualified and the audience murmured until the bell rang in command of silence.

A Jesuit theologian priest surfaced. On the selection table,he stared at both items and much closely at the 50,000 shilling note.
Amazingly he picked both money and the Bible. This action drew much more great murmuring from the audience.
with no time to waste he confidently walked before the judge and bowed in reverence.

`why have you chosen both as if you don`t know the rule of the game'asked Jesus. In defense the priest calmly said,`your majesty my lord, I hope and very well know that you watched every step of mine. I bowed to thank you for giving us such wonderful gifts`.(referring to money and the Bible) Basing on your word that earthly things should make us know heavenly things,i picked both`.he said.
The judge smiled at the priest and said `you are cleared.`The bell rang for us to get out for the show was over.

GOOD OR BAD, A THOUGHT'S PLAY

Once again in this column, may we set our selves for a broader discernment and understanding of the above notion as thrown to us by the all generations' challenging playwright from England, that's
''There is nothing good or bad ,thinking makes so"
My concern however is about the Lord`s gift of the colour ''BLACK'' which in many occasions has been associated with evil.
For this case we see even the StageProducing Directors (S.P.Ds) of plays, movie directors adopting it to highlight the always ''around the corner'' events of death, suffering, rape mention it.
It has also influenced the social ways of life of people for instace mourners have adopted to putting on black during burial.

The above and other incidences therefore have to me blindfolded the whole world, yet the same colour has been adopted for other much more aspects.
should we say such people are blind? or instead of them being blindfolded, they are the ones making the reality blind and even making it folded that they cannot see it.

Like Ngugi waThiongo, allow me speak to your mind basing on this article that ''weep not child, weep not child.''
The colour of our creator is still safe, for his omnipotence has made us blind and we have used on several occasions for which i now reveal to every body that the colour black is to us a BLESSING IN DISGUISE.

-Black coal is used for melting hard metals so as to have machines made and countries with such a mineral are called BLESSED.
-Black charcoal to majority of Africans is so useful that it can't be done away with .Maybe unless there is a move to have them fore go cooked food.
-The Black belts that are given to victors in games like judo, karate mention it.
-The black stone has always been and referred to as a final weapon for snake bites.
-Blacks (Africans) have been referred to as Blessed for their having a Good climate and to the occupants of other continents ,they call their friends ''Heroes'' who have ever been to Africa.
-Why of all colours must the youth put on black gurgles if not them telling me why they resent light in the disco halls
-This would be argued against if black was spared by the intellectuals but here comes the colour which occupies the biggest part of a graduation gown.
-Even in the religious context, while some catholic and protestant priests put on black cassocks, may the Muslim also think about the colour of the small house in the Mecca mosque if not telling me the colour of the most commonly put on Hijabs.
Why then do the majority of pentecostal pastors put on black suits? see the Orthodox priests. Sh sh sh sh (silence).Am still investigating why many traditionalists do their work in the night and when naked.
